Gunga Dirk
You may stick to comrades human When youre picking fellow crewmen For adventures that will offer no surprises. But in the wasteland mapless When youre helpless and youre hapless Buster you learn quick that mates come in all guises. Now in the blue pacific Where i roamed an isle horrific A-hunting of the capricorn berserk Of all my cronies fickle My best chum in a pickle Was a saucy piece of...
Just a quick odds-and-ends post here. First of all, this next user-submitted poem (written by tweedymcgee, who wrote that fantastic Prufrock poem earlier) is based on the Rudyard Kipling poem Gunga Din. You might want to read Kipling’s poem first to truly appreciate how well-constructed tweedymcgee’s adaptation is.
It turns out I waited a day too long to post it, since pretty much all...

The Love Song of J. Eridan Ampora
IF I THOUGHT FOR ONE DESPERATE MINUTE THAT ANY OF YOU THROBBING GRUBFUCKS HAD ACTUALLY PAID ATTENTION TO MY PREVIOUS HEARTFELT ATTEMPTS TO FEED YOUR THIRSTY SPONGES A LITTLE FUCKING SCHOOL I MIGHT AT THIS JUNCTURE OFFER SOME WORDS OF FRIENDLY SUCCOR. BUT SINCE YOU TURDFLECKED HOOFBEASTS OBVIOUSLY CAN’T BE ARSED TO DO ANYTHING BUT STAND AROUND AND DROOL, I’M NOT REALLY INCLINED TO GILD...
Just a quick word about this (very awesome) submitted poem by tweedymcgee that I’m about to publish. It’s based on “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” by T. S. Eliot, so you might want to give that poem a read first if you’ve never read it or it’s been a while since you have. I did my own take on the poem a few months ago, so it’s extremely cool to see...

The Ballad of Dave and Doom
He always wore his dusky shades, For black’s the hue of tombs, And crypts and graveyards haunt your mind In a timeline that is doomed. I saw it on his face as I Sat watching from my room. He strode across the molten plains In a suit of spotless white. A red bow tie adorned his neck, And his mood seemed calm and light; But I never met a boy who looked So weary as that...

500 follower special coming very soon!
It won’t be much longer, guys, I promise. I’ll hopefully at least have it out before I hit 600, which actually looks like it might happen very soon. (Is that a humble-brag? Or just a brag?) I’m going to be adapting the first two sections of The Ballad of Reading Gaol by Oscar Wilde. I want to thank everyone for the suggestions they sent in; a lot of them were really appealing,...

Hey, everyone. It’s your friendly neighborhood sonnetstuck here. So. 500 followers. Wow. When I saw the number last night, I thought it was really cool, but now that I stop to really think about it, this is kind of blowing my mind. When I wrote that first little WV sonnet to pass the time when I was bored at work, I couldn’t have imagined it would grow into this. I’m not going to...

Wwhether 'tis nobler in the mind: Eridan and...
Given the success that my previous poem-related analysis had, I thought I might try another based on my latest poem. I’m not planning on making this a regular thing, since I want to keep this blog completely about the sonnets, but I might consider making a separate blog for my English-major-y rambles if enough people are interested. Thoughts?
A few months ago, I wrote this poem in which I...

Can't sleep? Write about Dave.
This doesn’t really have anything to do with sonnetstuck, so feel free to ignore it. I’m just awake for no reason and in light of the theme of my latest poem, I felt like writing some stuff about Dave. So here we go.
Like most people, when I read the “You don’t just make a clone of yourself to live in a dead end existence where it has no chance to thrive as an ...

New poem very soon!
I just have a couple things to say about this one. First of all, it’s a very different type of sonnet from the Shakespearean ones I usually write. This is what’s known as an Onegin stanza (or Puskin sonnet). It has a weird rhyme scheme, and it’s in iambic tetrameter, but has an added syllable on certain lines. I just wanted to experiment with something different, and hopefully it...

Doctor Scratch, or, A Vision in a Dream.
On Alternia did Doctor Scratch A brutal, warlike world devise; His marks, the hapless trolls, were conned, From vicious snares could not abscond, Entrapped by truthful lies. So seeded he the trolls’ unrest: By blood and caste they were oppressed; And there were trials tortuous and cruel That slaughtered many a soul that might arise; And here were tyrants, ruthless in their rule, With...

It seems that the follower pile doesn’t stop from getting taller. Thank you so much for reading and liking and reblogging my poems, everyone. You’re all awesome, and I appreciate every single one of you.
To celebrate, I’m working on another Homestuck-ization of a famous poem, like I did with “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” to commemorate my 100-follower mark....

Anonymous asked: i'm a bit curious about the lyrical conventions of your poems. i noticed that youre using an abab rhyme scheme with ten syllables per line, but youre not using iambic pentameter, are you? if you are, forgive me, i always have so much trouble recognizing it.

Got Tiger Week! (and other news)
To continue the theme I started in my last poem, the next few sonnets are all going to be about various characters reaching god tier. Yay for themes.
Okay, now time for the other stuff. First of all, I feel like posting two poems per week isn’t really enough, so I’m going to start shooting for three per week, maybe on Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday. I think that should be manageable...
When somebody asked me what I did on Friday night
What I didn't say: "I stayed up until 3:30 writing parody verse and editing an image so that I could turn one of William Blake's most famous poems into something about a webcomic artist with large lips catching an imaginary tiger."
What I did say: "Nothing."

The Spider and the Whale
The seagrift Flarpers finish their campaign; They divvy up the spoils, spread the sail, And slay their captives. Unopposed they reign. They’re known by all: the Spider and the Whale. When other players spot their flag, with dread, Abscond they might, but ‘tis to no avail. The blue and violet pirates can’t be fled, For none escape the Spider and the Whale. A double terror, armed...
